I hate Google product launches

I do, seriously. Whenever Google so much as hiccups, everyone has to talk about it. And usually, they don’t have anything more  to add to the discussion than “Hey, looks like Google hiccupped today”. So like yesterday, when they launched Google Calendar, I wound up with a hundred duplicate posts in my RSS reader, as every blog I’m subscribed to has to point it out, with any meaningful analysis getting lost in the noise. And it dominates tech.memeorandum for the day, to the point of ridiculousness. It annoyed me enough yesterday that I just kind of stopped paying attention until it died down. (And I admit, I’m part of the problem… I posted about Google Calendar yesterday. Call me a hypocrite for posting this rant today).

What is it about Google that they can garner this kind of attention? Calendar is cool, but not exactly earth shattering, and it’s been expected for a long long time. I guess it’s no secret that Google has some magic mojo with geeks, but the response is still far above and beyond what the even that justifies.
