Or will as of 2008, anyway. He’s one of the few rich folk I actually respect - he earned his billions and now he plans to devote himself to giving it away (Of course, my opinion of Microsoft these days is someone less praising).
It’s probably a good thing overall. My suspicion is that with Gates going, Ballmer won’t be far behind, and once there’s new blood in place the company will quit stagnating. I don’t think there’s much they can do to stop Google’s domination of the web space, but nevertheless its a chance for Microsoft to re-invent itself, fix its core products and focus on the user experience. Though I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if that actually happens.
