ExxonMobil pundit invokes Godwin’s law

via ThinkProgress:

Sterling Burnett on Fox News: That’s the problem. If I thought Al Gore’s movie was as you like to say, fair and balanced, I’d say, everyone should go see it. But why go see propaganda? You don’t go see Joseph Goebbels’ films to see the truth about Nazi Germany. You don’t go see Al Gore’s films to see the truth about global warming.

I often wonder what debate would be like if World War II had never happened. What would this guy do if he couldn’t call Al Gore a Nazi? Would he actually criticize the film on its merits, argue his point of view rationally, and offer scientific counter-evidence to support his view? Somehow I doubt it… my guess is he’d probably just take a page from the White House and invoke 9/11 instead: “If you see Al Gore’s film, the terrorists won.”
